Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated sugar for sweetness.
  • 4 teaspoons orange zest, grated Use fresh orange zest for best flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Leavening agent.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional) Enhances flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) for about 15 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar for about 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the grated orange zest and vanilla extract, beating well to combine.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and optional salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the creamed butter until well combined. If the dough is sticky, chill it in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  6. Scoop out a tablespoonful of dough for each cookie, slightly flattening it before placing it on the baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
  8. Once baked, let the cookies rest on the pan for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added moisture and flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of orange juice. Experiment with nuts or chocolate chips for variety.
