Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Juicy and flavorful, forming the heart of the dish.
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion Sweet and aromatic, adding depth to the flavor.
  • 8 ounces sliced cremini mushrooms Earthy and slightly nutty, enhances the dish's richness.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt A potent seasoning that elevates the taste.
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seed Adds a unique hint of flavor.
  • 12 ounces egg noodles, uncooked Perfectly chewy, soaks up the flavorful broth.
  • 3.5 cups beef broth Essential for creating a rich base.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Adds creaminess and balances savory flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by heating a Dutch oven over medium-high heat and spraying it lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Crumble the pound of ground beef into the hot pan, followed by the sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté until the beef is browned and the onions have softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic salt and caraway seeds, infusing the spices into the beef and vegetables.
  4. Add the uncooked egg noodles to the pot.
  5. Pour in the 3.5 cups of beef broth, stirring to combine all ingredients well.
  6. Bring the broth to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 to 15 minutes until the noodles are tender.
  7. Remove from heat and gently stir in the half cup of sour cream until creamy.
  8. Spoon into bowls and serve hot.

Notes

For added flavor, sauté mushrooms until golden before adding beef. Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. Consider adding peas or spinach for more nutrition. To enhance creaminess, mix Greek yogurt with sour cream.
