Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Provides a rich, fruity base.
  • 1 pound lean ground beef Juicy and satisfying, a great source of protein.
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion Adds sweetness and depth.
  • 3 cloves garlic (grated or minced) Aromatic and flavorful, elevating the dish.
  • 1/2 cup flat leaf parsley (chopped) Fresh and vibrant; brightens every bite.
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning A fragrant blend that enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes An optional touch of heat for those who enjoy a kick.
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth Deep, savory liquid that builds the sauce.
  • 28 ounces can crushed tomatoes Sweet and tangy, providing the sauce’s main body.
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar Adds a hint of acidity and sweetness to balance flavors.
  • 8 ounces pasta Choose your favorite type, like penne or rotini, for perfect texture.
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese A creamy, nutty addition that enriches the dish.
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (optional) For a creamy finish that adds richness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a deep large skillet, Dutch oven, or pot until shimmering.
  2. Add the ground beef to the hot oil, crumbling it as it browns. Season generously with salt and pepper. When it’s about halfway cooked, add diced onions and minced garlic.
  3. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and the onions become translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Sprinkle in the dried Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes (if using). Pour in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and chopped parsley, reserving a bit for garnish. Stir well to combine.
  2. Add the pasta right into the skillet, ensuring that it’s fully submerged in the sauce. Stir everything together.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. If the sauce thickens too much, add an additional 1/4 cup broth as needed.
  5. Once the pasta is al dente, remove from heat. Stir in the shredded parmesan and Greek yogurt until well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately, garnished with remaining parsley and additional parmesan cheese if desired.
