Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 medium medium apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith Choose firm, juicy varieties for the best flavor.
  • 1 tsp lemon juice Enhances sweetness and prevents browning.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar Adds depth and a caramel-like essence.
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon Complementary fragrant spice.
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter Adds a rich texture to the caramelization.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into small slices or a relatively small dice for even cooking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, drizzle the apples with lemon juice and toss gently to coat.
  3. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and brown sugar, mixing everything together until the apple pieces are evenly coated.
Cooking
  1. Warm the butter over medium-low heat in a medium skillet or frying pan.
  2. Add the coated apples to the skillet, stirring to coat them in the melted butter.
  3. Spread the apples out in an even layer and allow them to cook for around 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking until they reach your desired tenderness and a syrupy consistency.
Finishing
  1. Once the apples are cooked, use them immediately or let them cool before transferring them to a container for storage.

Notes

For added flavor, consider including a pinch of nutmeg or allspice. For deeper caramel flavor, cook the apples longer but watch to prevent burning. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to five days.
