Ingredients

For the caramel
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar Essential for caramel base.
  • 0.5 cup water Helps dissolve the sugar.
  • 0.25 teaspoon kosher salt Enhances sweetness.
  • 0.75 cup heavy cream Adds creamy texture.
  • 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter For a smoother finish.
For the chocolate drizzle
  • 6 oz. dark chocolate chips Rich for drizzling.
  • 1 tablespoon oil Helps chocolate melt smoothly.
For the apples
  • 6 medium apples (washed, sliced) The main ingredient.
  • 0.5 cup chopped nuts of choice (optional) For added crunch.

Method

Prepare the caramel
  1. In a medium pot over high heat, combine granulated sugar, water, and kosher salt. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until the sugar melts and turns light amber.
  2. Remove the pot from the heat and carefully stir in the heavy cream, being cautious of bubbling. Bring it to a gentle boil over low heat while stirring until smooth.
  3. Turn off the heat and stir in the cold unsalted butter until well combined. Pour into a measuring cup or container for dipping.
Prepare the chocolate
  1. Melt the dark chocolate chips and oil together in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving in 30-second intervals and stirring until smooth.
Prepare the apples
  1. Wash and slice the apples, either lengthwise or into wedges. Toss them in a medium bowl with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. If using wooden sticks, insert them into the apple slices. Dip each slice into cooled caramel and drip off the excess before placing on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  3. Sprinkle chopped nuts or drizzle melted chocolate over the apples while the caramel is still warm.
Serve
  1. Enjoy immediately or chill in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

Ensure apples are dry before dipping for better caramel adherence. Use a candy thermometer for precise caramel control. Consider adding spices to the caramel for additional flavor.
