  • 0.75 cup mayonnaise For creamy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Asian chili sauce (e.g., Sambal Oelek) Adjust based on heat preference

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill to high heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, ginger, garlic, and torn sandwich bread. Stir well and let it sit for a few minutes.
  3. Using a fork, mash the mixture into a paste. Add in the ground beef and scallions, combining thoroughly with your hands.
  4. Divide the mixture into five equal portions, rolling each into a loose ball and flattening into a ¾-inch thick patty.
Cooking
  1. Lightly coat the grill rack with cooking spray. Place the patties on the grill and cover. Grill for 2 to 4 minutes until browned, then flip and cook until desired doneness.
  2. Toast the hamburger buns on the cooler side of the grill while the patties finish cooking.
Sauce Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Asian chili sauce, and granulated sugar.
Assembly
  1. Place a grilled patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, a dollop of chili-mayonnaise, and the bun top.

Notes

Experiment with toppings like sliced cucumbers or jalapenos. Use fresh, high-quality beef for best results. Adjust heat level as desired.
