Ingredients

For the Bake
  • 12 oz refrigerated cinnamon rolls These fluffy, sweet rolls will be the heart of your dish.
  • 3 Tablespoons butter (melted) Enhances the flavor and texture.
  • 2 cups apple pie filling (OR leftover cinnamon baked apples) Adds fruity goodness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Elevates the flavor profile.
  • 3 Tablespoons brown sugar Brings caramel-like sweetness.
For the Frosting
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened) Makes the frosting decadent.
  • 2 Tablespoons butter (at room temperature) For smooth frosting.
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar Creates sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds depth to frosting’s flavor.
  • 1 - 3 Tablespoons milk or cream For desired frosting consistency.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease an 8-9 inch cast iron skillet, pie plate, or square pan with some of the melted butter.
  2. Cut the cinnamon rolls into bite-sized pieces and add them to your greased pan.
  3. Stir in the apple pie filling alongside the cinnamon rolls. Drizzle with melted butter, cinnamon, and 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar. Mix well until everything is evenly coated.
  4. Sprinkle the last tablespoon of brown sugar on top.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 14-17 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are puffed and golden brown.
Frosting Preparation
  1. While the bake is in the oven, make the frosting by beating together softened cream cheese and room temperature butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat on low speed until incorporated. Switch to high speed until fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract and add milk slowly until desired consistency.
Serving
  1. Once the bake is done, pour the cream cheese frosting over the warm casserole and serve immediately.

Notes

You can prepare the apple filling a day in advance. For added crunch, consider adding chopped nuts. Feel free to mix in spices like nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor.
