Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease an 8-9 inch cast iron skillet, pie plate, or square pan with some of the melted butter.
- Cut the cinnamon rolls into bite-sized pieces and add them to your greased pan.
- Stir in the apple pie filling alongside the cinnamon rolls. Drizzle with melted butter, cinnamon, and 2 Tablespoons of brown sugar. Mix well until everything is evenly coated.
- Sprinkle the last tablespoon of brown sugar on top.
Baking
- Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 14-17 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are puffed and golden brown.
Frosting Preparation
- While the bake is in the oven, make the frosting by beating together softened cream cheese and room temperature butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and beat on low speed until incorporated. Switch to high speed until fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract and add milk slowly until desired consistency.
Serving
- Once the bake is done, pour the cream cheese frosting over the warm casserole and serve immediately.
Notes
You can prepare the apple filling a day in advance. For added crunch, consider adding chopped nuts. Feel free to mix in spices like nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor.
