Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set it aside.
- In a large bowl, pour the flour. Use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut in the 6 tablespoons of diced, cold butter until the mixture resembles pea-sized lumps.
- Add ½ cup of buttermilk to the flour-butter mixture. Mix gently until a soft dough starts to form, adding more buttermilk if necessary.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead gently, adding more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
Cooking
- Pat the dough to a thickness of about ¾ inch.
- Cut out 10 biscuits using a 2-inch round cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Refrigerate the biscuits for about 10 minutes before baking.
- Brush the biscuits with 1 tablespoon of melted salted butter and bake for 13-15 minutes until risen and golden brown.
- Once out of the oven, brush the biscuits with the remaining tablespoon of melted salted butter.
Notes
For best results, keep all dairy ingredients cold to ensure a flakier biscuit. Adjust buttermilk based on flour's humidity. Knead just until dough comes together to prevent toughness.
