  • 5 tablespoons salted butter (softened) Adds richness and a creamy texture.
Herbs and Spices
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic Provides savory depth.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage (finely chopped) Essential for warm, home-cooked flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (finely chopped) Essential for warm, home-cooked flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (finely chopped) Essential for warm, home-cooked flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt Enhances other flavors.
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest Brightens the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Creates a fragrant crust.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Adds a hint of spice.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine the softened butter with minced garlic, chopped herbs, orange zest, and spices. Mix thoroughly to create a creamy herb butter.
  2. Pat the turkey breast dry using paper towels. Carefully separate the skin from the meat using your fingers.
  3. Rub part of the herb butter mixture under the skin of the turkey breast. Spread the remaining butter generously over the top surface.
Cooking
  1. Place the seasoned turkey breast in a 6-8 quart slow cooker. Add about 3/4 cup of chicken broth into the cooker.
  2. Cook on low for 6 hours for a 4-5 pound turkey, or 8 hours for a 6-8 pound turkey, checking that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Notes

For added richness, use herb-infused olive oil in place of some butter. You can also add onions or carrots to the bottom of the slow cooker for extra flavor. For crispy skin, broil the turkey for a few minutes after cooking.
