Ingredients

For the Oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon butter Adds a rich creaminess.
  • 1 cup apple chunks (about 1 large apple) Fresh and juicy.
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar For caramel sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons apple pie spice A blend of warming spices.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds aromatic warmth.
  • a pinch salt Enhances sweetness.
  • 2 cups milk Creamy and nourishing.
  • 2 cups oats Provides fiber and heartiness.
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans Optional for crunch.

Method

Cooking
  1. Heat the butter and apples in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the apple chunks, brown sugar, apple pie spice, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt, cooking for about 3 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Gradually pour in the milk and bring the mixture to a gentle boil to release the flavors from the spices and apples.
  3. Once boiling, lower the heat and stir in the oats. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the oats absorb the milk and become soft and creamy.
  4. Remove from heat and serve in bowls, topping each serving with walnuts or pecans.

Notes

Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best flavor. For a vegan version, substitute regular milk with plant-based milk. Customize spices to your taste; add nutmeg or cloves for more flavor. This dish stores well in the fridge or can be frozen.
